The Family Unit, Inc. engages extensively in the research surrounding voting rights in South Carolina and has expended countless hours visiting voters who have historically been disenfranchised in an effort to increase the enfranchisement of these individuals and at the same time, improve and empower those persons who have historically been discriminated against and made victims of prejudice and injustice. They get abandoned homes, renovate them and donate these homes to families who are impoverished and do not have stable housing. They have donated six homes to such families in the past eight years and are also undertaking community outreach to the many, many families in Sumter County, South Carolina, including those who are incarcerated in the local jail and in other correctional facilities within the state who need help.
