Strike for Black Lives

image of Not your mules: July 20th

Tomorrow, we make history.

Led by our partners at SEIU and in coordination with working people all over the U.S., we will rise up to #StrikeForBlackLives. Together, we will withhold our most valuable asset — our labor — in support of dismantling racism and white supremacy to bring about fundamental changes in our society, economy, and workplaces.

Our economy, both past, and present, is dependent on Black servitude, yet we are robbed of wages, healthcare, paid sick time, and so much more. Corporate power is a threat to racial justice, and the only way to usher in a new economy is by tackling those forces that aren’t fully committed to dismantling racism.

Black workers everywhere have long been at the forefront of the fight for the rights of workers to earn beyond a living wage and to experience respect and dignity in the workplace.

So, we are organizing and striking to hold these companies accountable for their actions and to demand they enact policies that prove Black lives really matter.

This is an unprecedented moment, and the connective tissue between our movements is strong. There can be no economic justice or climate justice without racial justice and Black liberation.

Millions have taken to the streets with a clear and distinct call to end police violence and to defund police. This surge in power-building is critical and at the Movement for Black Lives, our calls for justice also go beyond addressing police brutality. We want to build a country where Black Lives Matter in every aspect of society — including in the workplace.

We want you to join us tomorrow. Here’s how you can take action:

  1. Demand that Black lives are valued by committing to kneel, hold a moment of silence or walk off the job for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Take the 8:46 pledge here.
  2. Go on strike for Black lives. Find a rally, protest, or car caravan near you, as well as information on how to strike here.
  3. Text DEFEND to 90975 to take action with the Movement for Black Lives tomorrow and beyond.
